Isles of Scilly

The Isles of Scilly lie  off the western  tip of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Steamship Company was formed in 1920 to provide a regular ferry service for the islanders. Nowadays there is both a passenger ferry called the Scillonian 111 operating between Easter and October and a freight ferry called Gry Maritha operating all the year round.
In 1983 the Steamship company branched out into air travel and started flying emergency supplies to St Marys on a Cessna 337. The first Islander aircraft was purchased in July 1984 to operate a freight and passenger service. The company now have three islander planes and four twin otters and fly from Exeter, Newquay and Lands End to St Marys and in 2013 the company have invested in a brand new terminal at Lands End.

These links with the mainland not only give the islanders a vital link with the mainland but also enable visitors to discover the delights of these beautiful islands.
